Our family recently stumbled across some old Christmas photos. So many memories came flooding back: special meals, gifts, services, church gatherings, decorating the Christmas tree and heading to the local photography center for a Christmas photo!
Getting the Christmas photo was a big deal too! It required a new dress, stockings and shoes. Which all, or course, needed to be festive colors. You had to schedule an appointment, get your hair done and then smile pretty! Lots of preparation for a “1,2,3, say cheese”.
As I look back at this picture, I’m reminded that there is and should be preparation for this time of year. That’s what Advent is all about: Preparing for our Savior. We take these weeks before Christmas to remember what God did for us. We remember how He made preparations for us to find salvation through His son, Jesus Christ. And we remember that He is now preparing a place for us. So that we can one day have a home with Him in Heaven. What a wonderful Savior!
What will you do this season to prepare your heart and your mind? In what ways can you bring stillness and reflection, honor and remembrance to your busy schedule? Find time for Him this season…and maybe a family photo or two.
